Washington D.C. – Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates told U.S. Senators today that the country is facing an “acute crisis” in its shortage of engineering professionals and those professionals with the right skills will be guaranteed a good paying job.

Despite all of the outsourcing of high-tech jobs overseas the U.S. will still have a strong IT industry said Gates. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) cited a figure of 600,000 jobs lost in the high-tech sector.

You could send a letter like this to your senators and congressmen:

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates told the Senate Health Education
Labor and Pension Committee today that any professional with the
right technical skills will be guaranteed a job, and that
increasing the number of H-1B visas from 65,000 to 300,000
?would be fantastic.? He is urging passage of Strengthening
American Competitiveness for the 21st Century Act.

As a high-tech worker in this country, I oppose further
expansion of the H-1B visa program that is riddled with fraud,
abuse and undermines the economic rights of citizens and
immigrants alike. Increasing the visa program is actually
detrimental for U.S. citizens from seeking out technical
professions because they believe that their will be too many
workers seeking to few job openings.

I know of my friends that are highly educated and skilled but
have faced long periods of unemployment. The only thing tech
workers are guaranteed today is economic uncertainty caused by
the winds of globalization and relentless corporate downsizing.
