I think we have a problem with imports from China. There is a reason their stuff is cheap.
This also comes at a time where Americans are calling for Country of Origin Labeling, and the Meat industry is one indicating the cost to print the the indication of origin would be too expensive.
Look at it this way, when a market sells a steak, they are pricing it at the maximum the market will bear, and the buyer assumes the product was raised here for the most part and subject to controls that make the product safe. Now lets assume that same steak came from China, at 1/3 the price and raised without controls, you’re still going to pay the market price, and the seller makes a killing, assuming one of your family members doesn’t die of food poisoning. What’s a little Ecoli or chemical tainting among consumers.
